4 Tips to Follow Your Heart {HerConference Edition!}

Over the weekend, I attended Her Conference 2015 and learned some helpful tidbits to help you follow your heart toward a life of happiness and success.

Sometimes, our minds guide us more than our hearts. If you think about it, we are raised and taught skills so that we can earn money to support ourselves. But, you cannot live a life based on money for fulfillment. That will NOT make you happy, especially if you are doing something that you hate. Following your heart and using your mind as a compass, is the best way to ensure that you live happily.

1. "Don't be afraid to ask questions; just do it." - Ryan Scheuer (Director of Admissions: Northeastern University)

When you are trying to figure out what to do with your life, just ask a bunch of questions. Figure out what you might be interested in doing and ask people that know more about it. Even if you know no one, Google will help you out. Let's face it, there is a whole world of things that we do not know and if you do not ask questions, you will never know. Asking a question opens the door to a world of possibilities and possibly, will lead you down the path that you are destined to take.

2. "You can't always Google the answer to your problems."

This may seem like it is canceling the first tip, but it's not. Yes, Google is helpful. Google and I are best friends. But some problems that you have in life, like picking a career path, you have to figure out on your own. When it comes to following your heart, you are the only person who truly knows what makes you happy and brings you joy. You are the best person to make decisions for you - not Google or your mom or anyone else.

3. "Do what you LOVE"

Sometimes doing what you love is harder than it seems. If you are obsessed with literature and you want to major in that, you have to consider what you will do with that degree. The degree that we get does have a significant impact on what we end up doing. You need to figure out what you love. Some people are born knowing that they want to be a doctor. Other people, myself included, are completely undecided. Give yourself time to discover what makes your soul ignite with happiness. Once you do, just do what you love and the rest will work itself out somehow.

4. "There are no limits to what you can do" - Tammy Tibbetts (Founder of She's The First)

Do NOT let anyone tell you that you should not do something - unless, if they are suggesting you jump off a cliff. You have the power and possibility to do anything that you set your mind to. No matter how long it takes, you will find a way to accomplish your dreams. Life is too short to spend time doing something that does not make you feel alive. You can do anything.
